An Unfortunate Announcement

It is with a heavy heart and much deliberation that we've decided to close Liburutegia.

We'd like to thank all our players - past, present, and those who were considering us for the future - for your interest, and apologize for this sudden decision, but ultimately we've decided that it is for the best.

We opened at a time we thought would work out for us, but in the end it hasn't, for a variety of reasons, both personal and external. While we could carry on, it would be a source of stress more than it would be a commitment with the care and love you all deserve, and the quality of settings and scenarios that we could offer you would suffer.

Ultimately, we do still love the setting, and while we may return to it in some form in the future, now is not its time.

Once again, we'd like to thank everyone for coming on this little adventure with us, short though it may have been, and wish you well in your future RP endeavors.

The Story
Some Cranes saw a farmer plowing a large field. When the work of plowing was done, they patiently watched him sow the seed. It was their feast, they thought.

So, as soon as the Farmer had finished planting and had gone home, down they flew to the field, and began to eat as fast as they could.

The Farmer, of course, knew the Cranes and their ways. He had had experience with such birds before. He soon returned to the field with a sling. But he did not bring any stones with him. He expected to scare the Cranes just by swinging the sling in the air, and shouting loudly at them.

At first the Cranes flew away in great terror. But they soon began to see that none of them ever got hurt. They did not even hear the noise of stones whizzing through the air, and as for words, they would kill nobody. At last they paid no attention whatever to the Farmer.

The Farmer saw that he would have to take other measures. He wanted to save at least some of his grain. So he loaded his sling with stones and killed several of the Cranes. This had the effect the Farmer wanted, for from that day the Cranes visited his field no more.

Bluff and threatening words are of little value with rascals.

The Field

⬡ Common Cast

All characters are likely to originate in The Field.

⬡ Literary Description

"Some Cranes saw a farmer plowing a large field. When the work of plowing was done, they patiently watched him sow the seed. It was their feast, they thought."

⬡ For Your Exploration

The field is freshly plowed and planted, and seems to go on forever. The soil itself is warm and loamy, loose and willing to crumble or compress under feet - both of human and crane. Seeds abound in the soil, arranged in neat, sprawling rows. Dotting the field are small, overgrown sections with old trees and high grass, preserving the integrity of the lands as best they can, before giving way to more neat rows on the other side.

In the distance, always on the horizon, but never able to be reached, is the shadow of what can only be a farmhouse.

⬡ Swinging and Shouting

The Farmer does not want his newly planted crops to be eaten before they've gotten a chance at life.

The Farmer does not want to cause unnecessary death to protect his crops.

As such, when the Cranes descend on the newly-planted field, carefully tended, ripe for the feasting, he'll attempt to chase them away again and again and again, in a Sisyphean effort to maybe, just maybe, convince the Cranes to leave without having to cause harm.

The Cranes, for their part, will likely find amusement in his attempt - for while his shouting was concerning at first... what will he do? Shout himself hoarse? No harm has come to them yet.

⬡ Sling and Stone

Yet.

The Farmer does not want his newly planted crops to be eaten before they've gotten a chance at life.

The Farmer, when pushed, does not see death as an unnecessarily harsh measure to protect his crops, anymore.

Sooner or later, the Farmer's patience will give way to anger and frustration. Sooner or later, he'll see killing the cranes - by any means necessary - as a necessary evil, and will come for them with a vengeance. He may even begin to enjoy the process, eventually. Cranes killed in this way will be expelled from the story immediately, having served their purpose.

A Welcome Show

⬡ Fireworks

Back at the Library, Characters who venture - or arrive - outside will notice the warm afternoon sky lighting up with a constant, yet somehow calm, fireworks display. The crackles and booms will echo as though they're coming from a great distance, loud but not oppressively so, and the fireworks themselves will appear as bright in the sky as they would if it were night. They'll appear in any color imaginable, and even in some distinct patterns - stars and smiley faces and such.

The display will be constant, until February 1st.

⬡ Sparklers!

To suit the mood of the display in the sky, characters will also find an array of sparklers (the fancy kind) set out on tables surrounding the entirety of the library itself, accompanied by lighters which never seem to run out of fluid, buckets of water on the ground that never seem to fill, no matter how many sparkler sticks are placed in them, and... first aid kits, with anything anyone could need to treat minor burns.

The sparklers, lighters, and water buckets cannot be brought into the library itself, but the first aid kits can.

A Quick Announcement

Hello Players!

Considering the state of the United States at the moment, we understand how tags and roleplaying and making Activity might be difficult for some. In light of this, and in interest of being fair to players who have already submitted their January activity, we've decided to combine January and February's activity periods.

What does this mean?

⬢ Players will be able to check-in for activity in either January or February.

⬢ If players check-in in January, they may use comments made in January on February's Activity check.

It is our hope that this makes matters a little easier on everyone in these trying times, and we look forward to continuing to enjoy the game with you all!

Event 2 ⬡ Plotting Meme

The Master-Thief

The full text of the original story can be found Here.

Some things to keep in mind:

⬢ The setting is Ambiguous, and subject to the whims of whoever is threading. The story implies a medieval slant, if players wish for some direction in that regard.

As such, certain details are subject to be flexible. A castle could become a mansion instead, and a horse could be a fancy car, or motorcycle.

⬢ The only Role with powers is the Thief. Thieves may use any of their canon powers and abilities to achieve their goals, but will not be given any new or additional powers if they already lack them.

⬢ The Tricked role is Open. After some feedback about "ensemble" roles, we're experimenting with the idea of having them be open to anyone who wishes to make use of them, instead of assigning them outright, for more flexibility in play. Anyone may make use of this role as they see fit, and are not constrained to their assigned roles. If anyone has any strong thoughts on this matter, please let us know!

⬢ If you have not been assigned a role, you did not fill out the survey! If you're missing from the cast list, please let us know once you've filled out the survey, and we'll update the list - and let you know your role directly!

⬢ And here's a form for plotting, if you'd like to use it:

hello everyone! Just making a quick note to say I'll be (tentatively) on hiatus until february because my computer has finally kicked the bucket and while I'm working on getting a new one, hard to say how soon that'll be since...well, things being the way they are and all! If I can get back before February I'll be super happy, but can only wait and see for now. Peace!

The Streets

⬡ Common Cast

All characters are likely to originate in The Streets.

⬡ Literary Description

"It was so terribly cold. Snow was falling, and it was almost dark. Evening came on, the last evening of the year. In the cold and gloom a poor little girl, bareheaded and barefoot, was walking through the streets."

⬡ For Your Exploration

The Streets are an endless row of street and sidewalk, hedged on either side by tall buildings, much like one might find in a large city - London, New York, Chicago, or the like. It's bitter cold out, and snow has already fallen several inches, and shows no sign of stopping. It's dusk, though the light is quickly fading, and people are slowly but surely going in for the night. The buildings are not residential - they're all little shops and restaurants, or the entrances to more private businesses.

The time and place are ambiguous. The city could be a modern one, a medieval one, a Victorian one, but it will be simultaneously familiar and unfamiliar to the first character to manifest in the space (i.e. the starter-writer).

Only the Grandmother/Angel will have powers, and those powers will be limited to what might be expected of a stereotypical Christmas Angel - Flight by way of large, feathery wings, an ambient glow, and the generation of warmth and good feelings.

The Corner

⬡ Common Cast

All characters are likely to originate in The Corner.

⬡ Literary Description

"In a corner formed by two buildings, one of which projected farther out into the street than the other, she sat down and drew up her little feet under her."

⬡ For Your Exploration

Eventually, once night has fallen, the Little Match Girl will find The Corner. It's tucked in and out of the way of the main sidewalk, and the brick walls block the wind, to an extent. Huddling here will make her less noticeable to Passers-By, but it will provide some small respite from the cold while she tries to warm herself by striking one match at a time.

The cold will bring her hallucinations of pleasant things, brought on by the striking of a new match, and taken away when it putters out. Eventually, her kind Grandmother will appear to her, and take her away as she succumbs to the cold.

In the morning, Passers-by will finally find themselves caring about her, but only enough to gossip about her hardships, and about how she tried warming herself with simple matches, once they see her corpse.

Like the Streets, the time and place are ambiguous.

⬡ Hallucinations

The Little Match Girl's hallucinations will come and go as she strikes matches on the wall. They'll all be pleasant for her, and will lessen her pain while they last. They may contain - but are not limited to - her believing there's a warm stove or fireplace nearby to warm herself, a great Christmas or New Year's feast to eat, or a kind and loving family to spend the holidays with.

The Tree

⬡ Merry Christmas?

Mysteriously, on what would be the 24th of December, for anyone capable of keeping track of the passage of days, a massive Christmas Tree will appear on the first floor of the Library, immediately visible to anyone walking in the Paseo entrance. It seems to warp the space around it - appearing to be several stories tall all on its own, and yet not reaching the ceiling. For characters already milling about the first floor, the tree will appear when they look away from the space - or even when they simply blink.

As this setting is part of the Library itself, characters will have full access to all their powers.

⬡ Presents?

The base of the tree will be surrounded with piles and piles of gifts. For anyone looking closely enough, these gifts will have clearly marked tags - and you might even find one for you in the pile!

Contained in these gifts is an additional item from home, for everyone in the Library. As characters are originally only brought in with the things on their person, this gift can be anything else they could possibly want from their home world.

If there is nothing else they would want from home, it will contain a generic Christmas Gift - a soft and practical sweater in their favorite color, a stuffed toy, a pillow or blanket, slippers, warm and fuzzy socks, etc. The only restriction on gifts is that it cannot be a food item (it's not in the cafe, after all!) and any weapons brought from home will come in the form of a note written in a card, thanking the character for their contribution to the gallery their weapon will then be found in.

Characters will be unable to open gifts that do not have their name written on the tag.

The Tree and all unopened gifts will disappear as easily as they appeared when the clock would strike midnight on January 1st.

Event 1 ⬡ Plotting Meme

A Christmas Carol

Merry Christmas! Welcome to the plotting meme of our first official event!

Some things to keep in mind:

⬢ The setting is Victorian in nature.

⬢ The only Roles with powers are the Ghostly Visitors, and only in the following ways:
⬡ The Ghost of Christmas Past can transport themselves and someone else to a vision of a Christmastime in their past with only a touch. They will also project light from their head at all times, and will have a shifting appearance, like you cannot look at them directly.
⬡ The Ghost of Christmas Present spreads the joy of the season with his mere presence, though can also do this more directly with a sprinkle of soot from his torch.
⬡ The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come gives off an oppressive, ominous aura, making those around it that are aware of its presence more prone to guilt. It is also capable of bringing visions of the future, though these visions are not written in stone and can be changed with a conscious effort.

⬢ Here's a handy form for you to fill out, but feel free to add to it, modify it, or not use it at all if that's more your style.

Personality Notes: Curious, and prone to becoming enraptured by the pursuit of learning about whatever has caught their curiosity. Mildly delirious due to injury.

⬡ Unaware they are doing harm with their painting, until it is complete.
code @ efryndiel

The Chateau

⬡ Common Cast

Characters most likely to originate in The Chateau are The Aristocrat and The Valet

⬡ Literary Description

"To all appearance it had been temporarily and very lately abandoned. We established ourselves in one of the smallest and least sumptuously furnished apartments. It lay in a remote turret of the building. Its decorations were rich, yet tattered and antique. Its walls were hung with tapestry and bedecked with manifold and multiform armorial trophies, together with an unusually great number of very spirited modern paintings in frames of rich golden arabesque."

⬡ For Your Exploration

Characters may attempt to explore the Chateau, but it will be shrouded in darkness, and every room they enter will bring them back to the apartment chosen by The Valet. What decorations may be seen are dark and victorian in design, and the room and halls may be lit by candlelight.

The Maiden's portrait is on the wall, and will initially be cloaked in shadow for The Aristocrat to find. It appears remarkably lifelike, almost as though it is a window instead of a portrait. The other paintings on the walls will contain figures that are almost familiar to The Aristocrat and The Valet - as though they could be someone they know, but only if they squint.

There is no electricity. Characters will not have access to any powers.

The Artist's Tower

⬡ Common Cast

Characters most likely to originate in The Artist's Tower are The Maiden and The Painter

⬡ Literary Description

"But she was humble and obedient, and sat meekly for many weeks in the dark, high turret-chamber where the light dripped upon the pale canvas only from overhead. But he, the painter, took glory in his work, which went on from hour to hour, and from day to day."

⬡ For Your Exploration

Should characters leave the Painter's studio, they will immediately be transported outside, to a sprawling field of wildflowers. There won't seem to be anything else around, but there will be a light breeze and the sound of the sea in the distance.

Inside the studio, the air is stale and musty, smelling of oil paints and turpentine. It's dim, lit only by a skylight. There is a stool for the subject and an easel with canvas sitting in the light, but everything else - art materials, more canvases, both empty and with the beginnings of paintings, and props - are all pushed to the sides of the room and cloaked in shadow.

Like The Chateau, there is no electricity, and characters will not have access to their powers.

The Library

⬡ Welcome!

Free from their roles, through either death, completion of the Story, or from not being pulled into the tale in the first place, characters will find themselves in the gardens outside of the Library itself. As always, it will look and feel like a temperate, autumn afternoon.

As this setting is part of the Library itself, characters will have full access to all their powers.

⬡ Grand Opening Coming Soon!

The front door will, unfortunately, be locked, and a sign will be taped on the doors, detailing how the Library will be opening soon, but in the meantime to please enjoy the grounds and the pizza party in the courtyard.

⬡ Pizza party?

Pizza party! In the courtyard, there will be tables set up that will be absolutely covered in stacks of paper plates, 2-liter bottles of any soda one could dream of, and stacks and stacks of pizza boxes, containing any flavor combination that could be desired. Opening a random box will provide a random, but popular, flavor. Opening a box with an Intent and a Desire for something specific will provide exactly that.

Enjoy! It won't run out.
